On behalf of shipping companies, pharmacists go on board and check the medicines and dressings in the medicine cabinet for expiry dates, clear labelling and clear storage in accordance with the inventory list. If necessary, medicines and bandages are replenished.
The tasks of the pharmacy also include the control of the functionality of medical equipment on board (e.g. blood-pressure meter and AED).
This annual check by a pharmacy must be documented by the captain and presented to the inspecting authorities' representatives upon request.
