Often, shore leave is not permitted in international ports, as the risk of bringing the virus on board and thus the risk of infection within the crew is enormously increased. A COVID-19 outbreak on the high seas, far from the nearest port and medical care, can become a deadly danger for affected persons. In addition to this infectious risk, the social isolation of seafarers poses great potential health risks, stretching both their physical and psychological limits. In addition, travel restrictions sometimes prevent seafarers from returning home to their families and friends, after their contract periods on board, which usually last for months. This is where we need to lend a hand to make the situation more bearable for those affected.
